Bartholomeus van Bassen

(b ?c.1590; bur. The Hague, 28 Nov. 1652). Dutch architectural painter and architect. He is first recorded in 1613, in Delft, and in 1622 he settled in The Hague. As a painter he specialized in views of church interiors, usually imaginary, although some are based on real buildings. From 1638 until his death he was municipal architect in The Hague, and he also worked on buildings in Arnhem.
