(Corigliano: The Ghosts of Versailles). Bar. The author of the plays on which are based the operas Le nozze di Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia. His ghost is in love with that of Queen Marie Antoinette and he enlists the help of Figaro, his favourite character, and the entire Almaviva household from his plays to help him change the course of history through his art. He will write a third play and through it will prevent the execution of the Queen he loves. But it all goes wrong, and in the end he is forced to stage Marie Antoinette's trial. He fails to rescue her, but through his art she has seen the way to love him, so her execution can go ahead—they will be reunited in Paradise. Created (1991) by Håkan Hagegård.
