Quick Reference

A fine mesh cloth screen that hangs over the bed and tucks in all around it, to protect the sleeper against insect vectors, especially mosquitoes, or sometimes sandflies. The bednet is often impregnated with insecticide. This simple, low‐cost protective measure has been efficacious in markedly reducing malaria risk, particularly for infants and small children.
