n. a corticosteroid drug that is administered by mouth to treat ulcerative colitis, by nasal spray to treat hay fever, and by inhaler for the prevention of asthma. For the latter it may be combined with formoterol (as Fostair). Possible side-effects include nasal irritation and hoarseness. Trade names: Becodisks, Beconase, Clenil Modulite, Clipper, Qvar, etc.
