Acronym for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. BASIC is a popular language used especially to program small computers. It is easy to learn and has been extensively used in teaching programming. A disadvantage is that, over the years, many different versions (dialects) of the language have developed and this has restricted the transfer of programs between different machines. A widely used form, Visual Basic, was developed by Microsoft and launched in 1990. This allows the user to produce applications by dragging and dropping controls (e.g. buttons or dialogue boxes) and defining their properties.
Subjects: Business and Management.
