Englishastronomer. She was the first to notice a signal from what proved to be a pulsar (subsequently designated CP 1919), recorded in 1967 August during a survey of radio galaxies. Bell, A. Hewish, and colleagues began detailed observations, and Bell found a second pulsar the following December.
