(d Ghent, 1519).

Netherlandish illuminator, active in Ghent and Bruges. No documented works by him are known, but it has been suggested he should be identified with the Master of Mary of Burgundy, which would give him an artistic status commensurate with his high contemporary reputation. His son Simon (b ?Ghent, c.1483; d Bruges, 6 Nov. 1561) worked in Bruges and was the most famous illuminator of his time, representing the final sparks of the tradition as the manuscript was supplanted by the printed book. Various documented manuscripts survive, as well as a self-portrait miniature (1558, V&A, London). His daughter, LevinaTeerlinc (d London, 23 June 1576), was a portrait miniaturist. She settled in London in about 1545 and worked for Henry VIII, Mary I, and Elizabeth I.
