first Bp. of Truro (1877–83) and Abp. of Canterbury (1883–96). He encouraged the establishment of the House of Laymen in 1886, in 1887 he reconstituted the Bishopric in Jerusalem (q.v.), and to deal with the ritual charges brought against E. King, Bp. of Lincoln, he revived the ‘court of the Abp. of Canterbury’ (see also Lincoln Judgement).
