A form of German mounting for telescopes that features a pillar bent through an angle equal to the observer's latitude. This bent pillar carries the polar axis. It is also referred to as a knee mounting or knee pedestal because of its shape. The design was developed by the German firm of Carl Zeiss for long-focus refractors.
