Quick Reference

Little is known of this king, who ruled Mercia for only a few months: no charters or coins have been found. He may have been implicated in the murder of his predecessor, Aethelbald, in 757, but was soon dispossessed by Offa, a kinsman of Aethelbald. Florence of Worcester called him a tyrant who lost his kingdom and his life at the same time.
