French painter and designer. One of the co-founders of the Ballets des Champs-Elysées (with Petit and Kochno, 1945). He designed Balanchine's Cotillon (Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, 1932) and Mozartiana (Les Ballets 1933); Massine's Symphonie fantastique (Colonel de Basil's Ballets Russes, 1936), Seventh Symphony (Sergei Denham's Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, 1938), and Clock Symphony (Sadler's Wells Ballet, 1948). For the Ballets des Champs-Elysées he designed Petit's Les Forains (1945) and Lichine's La Rencontre (1948).
