British composer and designer most closely associated with Sadler's Wells Ballet. Self-taught as a composer, he wrote several ballet scores, including The Triumph of Neptune for Balanchine (1926) and A Wedding Bouquet (1937, which he also designed), Cupid and Psyche (1939), and Les Sirènes (1946), all for Ashton.
