Quick Reference

Are said to have taken over the defence of Sussex when Aethelwald was slain c.680 and to have driven out Caedwalla of Wessex. He returned and c.685 killed Berthun, bringing the kingdom under Wessex control. It is not clear what the status of the two men was, but it has been suggested that Berthun represented west Sussex and Andhun the eastern part.
