Approach to HRM is a viewpoint that believes there is an optimal method of managing human resources which will lead to effectiveness and efficiency in organizational performance. This quest to find the one-best-way of managing dates back to scientific management. However, contemporary exponents of this viewpoint are the bundles theorists who are convinced (based on their own research evidence) that there is a set (a ‘bundle’) of HR practices which should be adopted by all firms because when combined together these practices improve organizational performance. Unfortunately, the bundles theorists do not agree on what practices should be included in the bundle. Critics question various aspects of the research data upon which such conclusions are drawn.
