A woven glass-fibre cloth used for the outer layer of NASA spacesuits. It replaced nylon after a fire in January 1967 killed three astronauts in their spacecraft on the launch pad. Coated with Teflon, Beta cloth can withstand temperatures of up to 2 760 °C. The material was also used for the inner layers of the Apollo lunar boot and is used for space shuttle sleeping bags.
