The heroine of a number of short cartoon films produced by Max Fleischer (1883–1972), and appearing in a newspaper strip from 1934; she was wide-eyed, dressed in skimpy clothing, and had a garter on her left leg. She was said to have been based on a popular singer of the 1920s, Helen Kane, known for adding ‘boop-boop-a-doop’ when singing ‘I Wanna be Loved by You’.
