From the Dutch bezaan, a small yacht, usually ketch rigged, of the 17th century. King Charles II named one of his many yachts Bezan; she was of 35 tons burthen and was given to him by the Dutch in 1661. He had a second yacht, named Isabella Bezan, built for him in 1680.
