1 The name given to the descendants of the Vedic sage Bhṛgu. According to V. S. Sukthankar, the editor of its Critical Edition, the Mahābhārata, which was originally a kṣatriya work, was reworked and expanded by this family of brahmins, and thereby infused with Brahmanical ideology and the values associated with orthodox dharma.

2 (Bhārgava Rāma) A name given to Rāma Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma), who in a well-known story annihilates all the kṣatriyas; he appears to have been included in the Mahābhārata as a Bhārgava hero.
