A word designating involvement in, and enjoyment of, the pleasures of the world. In the context of the specified outcomes of a vow or ritual practice, bhukti is usually considered the opposite of, or alternative to mukti (‘liberation’). Those in pursuit of such ends are designated ‘bubhukṣu’ (‘desirous of worldly enjoyment’), as opposed to ‘mumukṣu’ (‘desirous of liberation’). In the Tantric context, bubhukṣus are those seeking powers (siddhis).
