Ger.‐Bohemian violinist and composer, becoming Kapellmeister at Salzburg, 1684. Prolific composer for vn. Also wrote 2 operas, a Requiem, chamber mus., tpt. conc., and ‘Nightwatchman’ Serenade (for 2 vn., 2 va., and continuo). His 8 vn. sonatas with continuo (1681) demand a virtuoso's technique, as do the 15 Mystery (or Rosary) sonatas (c.1678) for vn. and bass. His Battalia is an early example of programme mus.
