Son of the Wolverhampton church-architect George Bidlake (1829–92). In 1887 he set up in practice with John Cotton (1844–after 1914) in Birmingham, from where he developed a large practice. He designed several fine late Arts-and-Crafts houses, one of which (his own), ‘Woodgate’, 37 Hartopp Road, Sutton Coldfield, was published by Muthesius in Das Englische Haus (The English House).
