Inability to perceive two markedly different images presented to the left and right eyes simultaneously, one invariably dominating over the other for the whole or part of the percept at any particular time. Also called binocular suppression or retinal rivalry. See also amblyopia ex anopsia, Cheshire Cat effect, hole-in-the-hand illusion. Compare binocular fusion.
