Quick Reference

A concept, first described by A. W. Gargulio in 1961, which established that the dimensional relationship between the crest of the alveolar bone, the length of the epithelial attachment, and the gingival sulcus depth is consistent. There is ongoing debate about the rational dimensions of the biologic width.
