A carboxylase enzyme that contains biotin (as a biocytin residue) in its active site. In humans such enzymes include pyruvate carboxylase, propionyl‐CoA carboxylase, and β‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase, which are present in mitochondrial matrix, and acetyl‐CoA carboxylase, which is cytosolic.
