first Bp. of Dorchester, near Oxford, and Apostle of the West Saxons. He was consecrated in Genoa and landed in Wessex in 634. In 635 he converted and baptized King Cynegils, who gave him Dorchester as his episcopal see. Feast day, 3 Dec. (in some places 5 Dec.); in CW, 4 Sept.
