bitewing radiograph

Quick Reference

An intra-oral radiographic film in which there is a central tab onto which the teeth can occlude in order to hold the film in position. The film is used to produce an image of the crowns of both mandibular and maxillary teeth for the primary purpose of diagnosing interproximal and secondary caries beneath existing restorations. The film may be placed vertically (vertical bitewing) rather than horizontally to provide a more complete view of the root structure.
