Syn: drop attack. Transient loss of consciousness. There are many possible causes, including medical conditions such as epilepsy and heart block, ingestion or inhalation of many varieties of neurotoxic substances, e.g., alcohol, anesthetic agents, volatile solvents, and several illicit substances. It becomes a public health problem when the person who suffers from it drives a car or machinery, endangering others as well as himself or herself.
