(Floyd: Susannah). Bass-bar. A visiting preacher who finds Susannah attractive. He encourages her to attend church service and confess the ‘sins’ of which the village Elders accuse her, but she runs out, not prepared to confess to something of which she is innocent. He calls at her home to comfort her and, when she breaks down, he takes her to bed. Finding she is a virgin, he tries unsuccessfully to convince the village Elders of her innocence. He is shot by her brother Sam. Created (1955) by Mark Harrell.
