The arrangement of lines of verse into a continuous sequence that is not divided into stanzas or verse paragraphs. The term is a recent substitute for the traditional category of stichic verse, although it may be applied to poems employing varying lengths of line, whereas stichic verse is normally expected to follow the same metre throughout. A poem written in this form is sometimes called a block poem.
