Protestant evangelist. The nephew of Christian Gottlieb Blumhardt, who founded the Protestant ‘Basel Mission’, in 1838 he became pastor at Möttlingen in Württemberg. His evangelical work attracted attention, largely because of the physical cures which sometimes accompanied it. From 1852 he worked at Bad Boll, near Göppingen, which became an influential centre of missionary work.
