A part of a space shuttle's aft fuselage, below the cones of the main engines. The movable, horizontal body flap is adjusted to balance the shuttle's attitude when it re-enters the Earth's atmosphere. It also protects the engine nozzles from re-entry heat. After landing, the device has a ground clearance of 3.68 m.
