Quick Reference

Son of the bookseller John Henry Martin Bohn (c.1757–1843) and brother to the successful translator and publisher H. G. Bohn, he twice failed as a bookseller (1834–37, 1845–7). However, he attracted bibliographers and scholars to his London shops, his catalogues amounting to bibliographical reference works. He eked out a living as a writer, editor, and compiler of catalogues for other booksellers, notably Nicholas Trübner.
