Small Cuban drums, bucket‐shaped vessels cut out of solid wood, bound with brass, and having strong vellum heads. Two of them are fixed together by a bar of metal. They are played with the thumb and fingers by dance‐band musicians and have been used in comps. by John McCabe, Varèse, Orff, and Boulez.
