It. composer, singer, and writer on music. Sang as castrato under Monteverdi and Cavalli in St Mark's, Venice, 1643–50, when he went to Dresden. Befriended by Schütz, becoming associate Kapellmeister with him in 1656. Wrote 3 operas and several theoretical treatises. Settled in It., 1680, becoming choirmaster Spello 1686.
