Fish in which the endoskeleton is at least partly ossified, including the dermal bones of the upper and lower jaws. Characteristic features are the terminal mouth, homocercal tail, operculum covering the gills, scales on the skin, and the presence of a swim-bladder (although sometimes this has been lost in the course of later evolution).
