Quick Reference

A localized region within a thunderstorm which shows low radar reflectivity, also known as a vault. Invisible except to radar, the BWER corresponds to the region with the most intense updraught. Although precipitation exists within the rising air, the velocity is so high that the particles have insufficient time to grow to large sizes, thus producing a weak radar echo.
