The highest world or heaven in the cosmology of the Purāṇas, also known as ‘Satyaloka’ (‘the world of truth’). Whether this is the world of Brahmā, or of brahman (neut.), is ambiguous and is variously interpreted: is the Brahmaloka a place or a state? Whatever the case, it is clear that those attaining it have gone beyond the world of change and rebirth. The term also appears in the early Upaniṣads where it refers to brahman, and appears to be synonymous with the devaloka of the Brāhmaṇas.
