Also known as Tissa, a Brahmin who lived at the time of King Vaṭṭagāmaṇi Abhaya (1st c.bce). According to the chronicles of Sri Lanka.he turned brigand with the intent of acquiring the throne of the island and brought a period of great distress in the country. Because at the same time Tamils from India were also trying to conquer Sri Lanka, King Vaṭṭagāmaṇi Abhaya sent word to Tissa that the kingdom would be his if he could defeat the foreign invaders. Tissa agreed to this, but was taken captive in a battle. According to the Pāli commentaries, Brāhmaṇatissa plundered the land for twelve years and his activities were at their height in the period when the king was in hiding. When Brāhmaṇatissa died the king once more came to the throne.
