Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An ambiguous compound occuring in the Bhagavadgītā (1.72), which is interpreted variously as the nirvāṇa that is brahman (neuter), or the nirvāṇa of brahman. Its use there may be a deliberate attempt to reinterpret the Buddhist nirvāṇa as the Vedic and Upaniṣadic absolute.

Subjects: Hinduism.
