A relatively common name in early Ireland, borne by at least two saints and a series of petty kings. The most memorable of these was Brandub king of the Lagin (d. c.605), who wins Mongán's wife, Dubh Lacha, from him through a trick; Mongán recovers her a year later with another trick.
