(b Damblein in Bassigny, duchy of Bar, France, 1579; d London, Dec 1646). French medallist, also active in England and Scotland. Between 1606 and 1625 he was engraver-general at the Paris mint, whereupon his mechanized system of coin production failed, forcing him to flee to London. He was appointed engraver at the Royal Mint in 1634, and the following year became Master of the Scottish Mint.
