A UK-published list of approved drugs and medications, listing their generic and proprietary names, pharmacological action, dosage, indications, contraindications, side effects, and reported adverse reactions. This is produced and maintained up to date in collaboration by the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. See http://www.bnf.org/bnf/ for details. Many nations produce such lists, usually in collaboration with the pharmaceutical manufacturers, and publish frequent revisions. Other examples include the US Pharmacopeia and National Formulary (see United States Pharmacopeia) and the WHO's essential drugs and medicines list.
