writer, pacifist, and feminist. Her autobiographical Testament of Youth (1933) is a moving account of her girlhood and struggle for education and of her war experiences. She formed a close friendship with Winifred Holtby, recorded in Testament of Friendship (1940). She also published various volumes of poetry, fiction, essays, etc.
