A later and larger development of the skipjack, used for offshore fishing and general cargo-carrying in the Chesapeake Bay area of the USA. Built originally as work boats and later copies as shallow draught yachts, bugeyes ranged from 12.3 metres (40 ft) to about 23 metres (75 ft) in length and were generally ketch rigged with their sails set on masts raking aft.
