Russian theologian. Expelled from Russia after the 1917 Revolution, he was Dean of the Orthodox Theological Academy in Paris from 1925 until his death. He was widely known in W. Europe and America through his participation in the Ecumenical Movement. Theologically he is best known for his contributions to Sophiology, a body of thought which seeks to solve the problems of the relation between God and the world by the concept of the Divine Wisdom or sophia.
