Kuitikuiti's wife, Mboze, the great mother, lived happily with her husband. She became pregnant, and she brought life to and watched over the people. But when she gave birth to a serpent, Kuitikuiti knew that he was not the father. When he learned that the father was his son, Makanga, he killed his wife. The serpent was called Bunzi; she grew up and assumed the rainmaking role of her mother. So it was that when the rains came and the plants grew, the people looked to the sky for Bunzi, and they saw a rainbow.
