(Revd) (1830–1883), Dominican priest and preacher, known as ‘Father Tom Burke’; born in Galway, the son of a baker, and educated in Italy. His course of lectures in America during 1872 were published as Ireland's Case Stated (1873). A collection called Lectures on Faith and Fatherland (1874) challenges the anti-Catholic view of Irish history.
