The moment during a space flight when a rocket's fuel or oxidizer propellant has been entirely consumed, and so the engine stops firing. The rocket is then jettisoned from a spacecraft or goes into free flight. The burnout velocity is the maximum velocity reached by a rocket or spacecraft when burnout occurs.

Burnout weight is the weight of a rocket after burnout has occurred. This is contrasted with its initial weight.
