A comedy by S. Centlivre, produced 1709.
The devices by which Sir Francis Gripe's intentions to marry his ward Miranda are defeated, and those by which his son Charles secures the hand of Isabinda, occupy the play. Marplot, whose well‐meant but misdirected interference constantly endangers the course of true love, has enriched the language with a name for the blundering busybody.
