A version of the popular bingo game which takes place in meetings organized in large high-tech companies. Here, each member of the audience is secretly given a computer-generated card of abbreviations and buzzwords; every time that one of these is mentioned it is deleted from a card. The winner is the person who deletes the full card or who has the most deletions. There are a number of apocryphal stories of participants standing up and shouting ‘bingo’ in the middle of a meeting when they have won. The term occasionally surfaces in emails; for example, someone might claim to be the buzzword bingo winner after a particular email or posting full of abbreviations has appeared. There is a variant of buzzword bingo where everyone in a meeting is assigned a word and the person whose word is uttered most often gains a prize.
